About Marc Weisberg
Marc Weisberg, a man with a significant background in communications, would like a word.
Several, actually.
Soho Investment Partners’ Managing Principal is all about networking, all about building relationships and business partnerships through face-to-face interactions. This deep-seated appreciation for all that can be gained from such connections has sustained Marc throughout his 30-plus-year career as an investor and advisor, as have two other guiding principles: respect for those who have played a role in supporting and educating him and a passion for learning new things, whether in business or recreationally.
Known for his proficiency in strategic planning, financial analysis, capital structure architecture and transactional dynamics, Marc Weisberg is also one to immerse himself in a subject in order to develop a full and complete understanding. But again, relationships are, to him, as important as anything — interacting with someone directly, more specifically face-to-face, makes it easier to engage and create a more sincere relationship.
At Soho, Marc Weisberg has been focused on a diverse investing and advisory strategy that includes cyber security, oil and gas, app development and distilled spirits. He has, however, spent much of his career, and remains active, in the telecom, media and technology (TMT) industries.
Early on he learned the essentials of investment banking, especially as it pertained to the cable television industry, while working at Daniels & Associates under Bill Daniels, one of the pioneers in that field. Later Marc formed an advisory firm of his own, affording himself the opportunity to deepen his understanding of TMT and expand his client base.
After nine years on his own he assumed the position of Executive Vice President of a major telecommunications company, overseeing all merger & acquisition activities as well as all venture capital investing. On his watch that business consummated over $50 billion in transactions.
Then, in 2009, Liberty Media, a company deeply immersed in the media, communications and entertainment sectors, became one of the many businesses for which he provided advisory services. He was integral to the sale of Liberty-owned CBS television stations, and aided another of the company’s subsidiaries as it acquired a proprietary global geolocation business. In addition he offered operational assistance and strategic planning to Liberty affiliates.
Marc relocated to New York City with his family in 2013, and eventually entered into a partnership to purchase Source Media, a company which owns thirteen long-established brands, including American Banker and Bond Buyer. He also served on Source Media’s board of directors.
A Michigan native, Marc Weisberg earned an accounting degree from Michigan State University in 1980, then moved to Colorado to work for a company now known as KPMG, a global network of professional firms providing audit, tax and advisory services.
He then co-founded a firm that specialized in tax planning and compliance, but after six years pivoted to the TMT world at Daniels & Associates, having decided he wanted to build a career around the transactional side of business.
Marc enjoys running and motorcycling, as well as spending quality time with his family and collecting contemporary art.
